What the developers have to say:

Why Early Access?

“We believe, that with the community's feedback, we can make a better game. We are constantly testing and improving the game, we ask friends to test it and give us tfeedback to enhance the game and as of now, it's a good time to reach out to some people, who haven't played our game and to get to know what is their opinion about Thousands of Years Later.

Player’s feedback is very important to us and we take it very seriously. With more people having access to our game in this early state, we believe, we can make it the game many more players and their friends want.

Since we have finished the core gameplay, a variety of possibilities now open up, of which we are very curious about what people think and how they support our updates and plans.”

Approximately how long will this game be in Early Access?

“It really depends on the feedback we get in this early phase. Our initial plan is six months ahead.”

How is the full version planned to differ from the Early Access version?

“The differences between Early Access and the complete version – again, will depend on the quality-feedback we receive from our early players. We are ongoing adding more content, polishing and improving features according to the response we receive from our alpha-testing community. And, of course, we plan to continue this way in the Early Access.”

What is the current state of the Early Access version?

“The game is fully playable and already has plenty of content. In the current state of the game players awake from a long sleep to find their base severely lacking power. They can interact with a few devices, a control panel for power management, design their own simple structures and vehicles and also manufacture those and other items. Players also need to find a solution to the power issue, they can gather resources required for building and fight and defend the base from mutant attacks outside the base. The outside environment is treacherous so players will need to return to base at certain times in order to regenerate their survival stats before setting out to explore again. A day and night cycle affects the outside environment so player will need to adapt accordingly.”

Will the game be priced differently during and after Early Access?

“The Early Access is launched at a discount to show our appreciation to our early supporters, who wish to help us make the game great. The final release price may be higher than the early access price.”

How are you planning on involving the Community in your development process?

“We already work with the community to fix bugs and implement ideas and features requested. Everyone here on Steam can support us in the development process!”

About This Game

background

Once again, you walk around the area alone, looking for employment, but knowing there was no hope. Giant TVs on the streets play films that show the ‘world of tomorrow’... A future, which could be so great, but is just science fiction! You turn away in disbelief. Suddenly, you receive a message on your mobile phone: “You have been selected by the Dark Star Foundation for Science and Technology to take part in the one thousand years voyage…“ What on earth..?!? Really?! Just a few moments later you are walking up to the magnificent Dark Star building. What exactly do they mean by a one thousand years voyage?
As one of many unremarkable people in the world, YOU were luckily (or unfortunately?) chosen by the Dark Star Project getting frozen for thousand years to become witness of the future. You do not know, mankind is wiped out by a deadly virus during your long, cold sleep. As you wake up, you realize the world has changed to an endless seeming desert.

Gameplay

Thousands of Years Later is sandbox game with a Mechanical Manufacturing System and a Construction System. You can use basic elements to produce various weapons, gears, vehicles or anything you might find useful to protect your constructions. It’s even possible for you, to build a huge castle in the game. Since you live in the wastelands, you’ll have to find water, to not suffer from the high temperatures during daytime. Even if you are lucky enough not being swept away by a sandstorm, you ought to return to your shelter before night, when the ugly mutants enter the stage. If you ever encounter these dangerous monsters, you will die for sure. So make sure you set up a suitable line of defense in the daytime to avoid being crushed at night.

Collection

For manufacturing, you should collect stone ore, iron ore, rare metal ore and radioactive ore. To survive, you should find water sources .

Construction System

You can produce different basic construction elements by the ores you collected, such as: bricks, pillars, platforms, stages and many more. Different construction elements have different durabilities, as they can be wracked and carried away. You need to build a base to speed up constructions.

Mechanical System

The mechanical system is divided into two parts: design and production. You can design all mechanical devices in your basement control system. When ready with your design, you have to transform the mechanics into integration modules to work for you. The process will consume ores according to your design. You can put mechanics everywhere you need them with integration modules.

Power System

None mechanics can work without power supply. Thus you have to design the Establish the Power Generation Equipment first. Then you can set up the power grid, connecting it to the available devices. You should pay special attention to the distribution of the power and the safety of your power grid, because an overload and other failures will cause a lot of trouble!
